Consultant Patrician Dr Anoma Gunwawardena’s message- This machine is simple but very effective equipment to give breathing support. There is severe shortage of ICU beds. As a result of that critically ill patients die in the wards. If we use this machine early in the illness it prevents patients going in to respiratory failure. So, it is a lifesaving machine.

We are pleased to inform you that The DOT Charitable Foundation has donated LKR 775,000.00 worth infant incubator (JW Medical- CHS-I1000) to the Paediatric Unit of Puttalam Base Hospital. The incubator was handed over on Friday the 15th of November 2016 to the team headed by Consultant Paediatrician Dr Dammika Dissanayaka.

The Puttalam Base Hospital is the main hospital in Puttalam District of North Western Province. It has an Obstetric Unit as well as a Paediatric Unit including a Neonatal Unit.  It services for nearly 7000 deliveries per annum and around 30% of the babies are prematurely born.  Currently the hospital is functioning with only 2 working incubators in the Neonatal Unit. Therefore, the hospital was in urgent need of an infant incubator.

We decided to facilitate this urgent donation after the below news item came to our attention.

BASE HOSPITAL PADAVIYA – MULTI PARAMETER MONITOR

BASE HOSPITAL PADAVIYA – MULTI PARAMETER MONITOR

Base Hospital Padaviya is full of highly dedicated staff but has limited facilities. The DOT Charitable Foundation donated a Multi Parameter Monitor worth of LKR 139,500.00 (AUD 1,320.00) with adult, paediatric and neonatal NIBP cuffs, adult, paediatric and neonatal spo2 probes and a set of ECG leads to the paediatric ward on the request of Dr Ruwan Dissanayaka, Consultant Paediatrician.

According to Dr Dissanayake currently hospital has only two multipara monitors for paediatric wards. Most of the patients in paediatric wards will get suboptimal care, when a critically ill child is transferred to the tertiary care with one of the monitors. Therefore, the new monitor donated by DOT is an invaluable asset to the Padaviya Base Hospital.

Our special thanks to MR Asoka Sirisena Manager, Commercial Credit, Padaviya who handed over the Monitor to hospital on behalf of The DOT Charitable Foundation.
The funds raised form 2016 raffle and through your generous donations we were able to successfully complete another project.

We sincerely appreciate your support to betterment of sick children in Sri Lanka.
